Flights to Botswana

Botswana is the country neighboring north of South Africa and also shares a boundary with Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Botswana is an admired tourist destination with guests from around the world and is also renowned for its diamond mines.

The chief international airport in Botswana is in the capital city, Gaborone, and there are direct flights here from South Africa with South African Airways and Air Botswana. The flight time is about an hour from Johannesburg, so it’s pleasant and close! Flights from Cape Town also exist, though with the more distance the flights are noticeably longer and unluckily involve a stop in Johannesburg.

The other alternative is to fly to a town approximately 1000km north of Gaborone, called Maun. Maun is one of the most important tourist destinations in Botswana so if you’re intending to live here for a vacation other than for business, this is likely a better choice. Again from Cape Town you would have at least one flying via Johannesburg or via Windhoek on Air Namibia, also from Johannesburg you can decide the Air Namibia flight via Windhoek or a direct flight with Air Botswana.

Starting from London to Botswana

The easiest and most direct way to arrive Botswana from London is to fly to Jo’burg (often with South African Airways or British Airways), and then link up through to one of Botswana’s two ‘gateway’ airports: Maun in Botswana, or Livingstone apart from the Victoria Falls in Zambia.

These flights fly from Heathrow every day of the week.

Starting from the USA to Botswana

Departing from the USA, your have choices to make about your flights. In broad terms, your two options for the flight arrangements are:

You organize your return flights USA -> London and London -> USA for yourself.

Expert Africa arranges the London -> Maun / Livingstone and Livingstone / Maun -> London flights for you.

This is reasonable as we have wonderful rates on the flights to Jo’burg – and permit us to use low add-on rates inner flights within Africa which we can buy for your trip linked to you international ticket. (Especially true of the Air Botswana flights on the Maun / Jo’burg route.) However, you require making sure that you have adequate turn-around time between planes in London.

You organize your own flights USA -> Botswana and Botswana -> USA, either via London or on any other route, and inform us of the flight times and carriers.

This is more meaningful if you are flying direct from the US – e.g. on the service connecting Atlanta with Jo’burg. If you prefer to organize your own intercontinental flights, then we prefer you to also book any connecting flights at the same time, with the same people who sell you your intercontinental flight tickets. Eg: links between from Jo’burg and Livingstone or Maun.
